Urinary tract infections (UTI)

Fast diagnosis and antibiotics for travelers.

Overview

A urinary tract infection happens when bacteria — most often E. coli — enter the urinary tract and multiply. UTIs are extremely common, especially in women, and traveling can increase your risk due to dehydration, holding urine on long trips, and changes in routine. Most uncomplicated UTIs respond very quickly to a short course of antibiotics, and you can usually feel relief within 24–48 hours of starting treatment.

Common symptoms

  • Burning or pain when urinating
  • Needing to urinate often, even when little comes out
  • Cloudy, dark or strong-smelling urine
  • Pressure or pain in the lower abdomen
  • Mild fever or feeling unwell

When to seek care urgently

  • There is blood in the urine
  • You have fever, chills or back/side pain (possible kidney involvement)
  • You are pregnant, diabetic, or have a history of recurrent UTIs
