Overview

Severe nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combined HIV and hepatitis C therapy can be debilitating. When standard antiemetics are not enough, medicinal cannabis is recognized under Portuguese law as an option to help control these symptoms and improve treatment tolerance.

Common symptoms

  • Persistent nausea during or after chemotherapy/radiotherapy
  • Vomiting despite standard antiemetics
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Nausea related to HIV or hepatitis C treatment

When to seek care urgently

  • Standard antiemetic regimens are not effective
  • Nausea is affecting nutrition and treatment tolerance
