Epilepsy & severe seizure disorders

Refractory epilepsy in adults and severe childhood seizure disorders.

Overview

In some forms of epilepsy — including drug-resistant adult epilepsy and certain severe childhood seizure syndromes — medicinal cannabis (particularly CBD-based formulations) has been shown to reduce seizure frequency. This is one of the conditions recognized under Portuguese law for medicinal cannabis prescription, always coordinated with the patient's neurologist.

Common symptoms

  • Seizures despite multiple antiepileptic drugs
  • Significant side effects from current treatment
  • Severe seizure syndromes in childhood

When to seek care urgently

  • Confirmed diagnosis of drug-resistant epilepsy or severe childhood seizure disorder
  • Coordination with your treating neurologist
