Chronic pain

Persistent pain not controlled by standard treatments.

Overview

Chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than three months and significantly affects quality of life. When standard analgesics, anti-inflammatories or other therapies do not provide adequate relief — or are not tolerated — medicinal cannabis is recognized under Portuguese law as an option within a broader pain-management plan.

Common symptoms

  • Persistent pain lasting more than 3 months
  • Reduced mobility or sleep due to pain
  • Inadequate response to standard pain medication
  • Side effects from current treatment

When to seek care urgently

  • You've tried first-line treatments without success
  • Pain is affecting daily activities, sleep or mood
  • You want to explore alternatives to opioids
